Elizabeth Kemp Anderson, age 96, passed away on January 21, 2015, at the Laurens Care Center. Elizabeth Carol Witham was born on January 18, 1919, at Vincent, where her parents owned the drugstore. She was the daughter of Clair and Amanda (Johnson) Witham. Her family later moved to her grandparent’s farm near Elfsborg Church east of Fonda. She, along with her brother, Bud and three sisters, Bertha, Maybert and Norma Deen, went to a one-room rural school near Fonda. Later in High School, she enjoyed playing basketball and the bass drum. In 1940, Elizabeth married Edward Kemp and they made their home and raised their family of five children, Sondra, Michael, Bill, Tom and Fred in Laurens. Elizabeth’s family and home along with her church have always been the center of her life. As in every life, Elizabeth has had great loss. Edward passed away in 1978, her daughter Sondra in 1992 her son, Fred and grandson Guy in 2010. After her career as a stay at home wife and mother, she worked for eighteen years as a cook in the Laurens school cafeteria. There, she not only provided the students with food but with plenty of entertainment and good natured teasing as well. During this time, she married Eldon Anderson and the couple continued to live their lives in Laurens until his passing in 1997. Elizabeth had always been supportive of her community. Over the years she has been a member of the Progressive Club, the Y-Tanya group and has helped the Meals on Wheels program. She has always been a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving in Circles and as a member of the church board. Elizabeth had been physically active over the years, enjoying bowling, golf, walking and dancing. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading and gardening.

Survivors include her sons: Michael (Pamela) Kemp of South Pasadena, CA, Bill (Dianne) Kemp of Waseca, MN and Tom (Debbie) Kemp of New Richland, MN; ten grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husbands, daughter Sondra, son, Fred and grandson Guy.
