Marie E. Hovland, the daughter of Hoaken and Erika Sederdahl Dahlberg, was born on August 26, 1892 at Centerville, Iowa. She died on Monday morning, April 21, 1980, at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove. She attained the age of 87 years, 7 months and 25 days. On August 21, 1935, she was united in marriage with Peter B. Hovland at Eagle Grove. The family made their home in Eagle Grove, where Mr. Hovland was a rural mail carrier for many years. He died in May, 1979. Marie entered the Rotary Ann Home in the fall of 1979. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eagle Grove and was a member of the Miriam Circle of the church ALCW.

She is survived by her children, Mrs. Bernice Watne of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Conger (Pearl) Whyte of Goldfield, Mrs. William (Verna) Wishart of La Palma, Calif.; Dr. Rueben Hovland of Northridge, Calif.; Harold Hovland of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Kenneth Hovland of Vernon, Conn.; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Edith Christensen, and a brother, William Dahlberg.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie E. Hovland were held on Wednesday afternoon, April 23,1980 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Kenneth Torvik officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
