March 30, 1933 --- January 21, 2015

Longtime Grosse Pointe Park resident Alice Margaret Nye, 81, lost her battle with cancer Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015. She was born March 30, 1933, in Kanawha, Iowa, to Agnes and James Yeakel, and graduated from Kanawha High School. She met Robert Nye at the University of Iowa and they married Nov. 22, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa. The couple relocated to Michigan in 1965. Mrs. Nye enjoyed cooking, decorating, shopping and had a true passion for baking. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She also was a member of The Society of the Descendants of the Schwenkfeldian Exiles. Mrs. Nye was a woman of strong faith. She imparted her faith to her children and grandchildren. Her family said she was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker who created many special and meaningful memories her family will always treasure. They will remember her most for her profound listening skills, kindness, compassion, optimistic outlook and genuine warmth.

Mrs. Nye is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert; daughters, Julie King (Terry), Margaret Olson and Jean Ditta; grandchildren, Anna Sanders (James), Elizabeth Cox (Steven), James Robert King (Jennifer), James David King, Kirsten Ditta and Susan Ditta and great-grandchildren, Campbell King, Kaitlin King, Anna Grace King, Sydney Sanders and Blake Cox. She also is survived by her sister, DeLoris McQuiston. She was predeceased by her son Robert, and brothers, Dwayne, Wayne and James. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
