September 8, 1928 --- July 13, 1996

Funeral services for John H. Murray were held in Phoenix, AZ, July 15, and again on July 17 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco. Interment and military rites were held in the Calvary Cemetery at Cresco. The Rev. Dennis Cahhil officiated. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John, 67, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Cresco, died Saturday, July 13, 1996, in Phoenix after a lengthy illness. John was born September 8, 1928, in Cresco, the son of Ray and Margaret (Coughlin) Murray. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and Cresco High School. He graduated from Winona State College in Winona, MN, and received his Masters Degree from Colorado State in Greeley, CO. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he taught in Clarion. After his marriage in 1964 to Marilee Payne of Des Moines, the couple moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he taught high school in Phoenix until his retirement in 1989. John is survived by: his wife, Marilee; son, John E. of Phoenix; two sisters, Elizabeth Nixa of Mason City and Margaret Law of Ankeny; and two brothers, Ray of Cresco and Henry of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edward, Thomas and Robert.
