Funeral Services for Arlon Yepsen, 90, of Jefferson will be 2:00 pm Monday, at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Interment will be at the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA. Visitation with the family will be today from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Memorials are suggested to Greene County Community School District Foundation or First United Methodist Church and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Arlon Eugene Yepsen, son of Ralph Yepsen and Verola Hartwig Yepsen, was born December 24, 1924 in Kanawha, Iowa and died, December 25, 2014 one day after his 90th birthday at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care in Jefferson, Iowa.

Arlon grew up in Kanawha, Iowa and graduated from Kanawha High School. After high school, on March 20, 1943, Arlon enlisted in the United State Army in Des Moines, Iowa serving during World War II, he was honorably discharged on March 15, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. On February 15, 1950, Arlon was united in marriage to Marjorie McAfee in Indianola, Iowa. They were the parents of four children: David, Tom, Sara, and Mary. They made their home in Jefferson. Arlon went to work at United Food Stores as a meat cutter where he worked for 7 years before going to work for Iowa Electric as a gas service man. He worked there for 33 years before retiring in 1984. After retirement Arlon went to work for Hy-Vee where he worked for over ten years, delivering prescriptions.

Arlon was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, Masons, Consistory Des Moines Shrine, American Legion and Eastern Star Elks. He was 3 times the Worthy Patron of the Star, twice the Master of Blue Lodge, he was a chairman on the Board of Trustees of the Methodist Church for 2 years, the Commander for the American Legion, and was a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years.

Arlon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie in 2010, and his brother Jack. He is survived by his children: David Yepsen (Mary Stuart) of Des Moines, IA, Tom (Julie) Yepsen of Jefferson, IA, Sara (John) Feldman of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mary Yepsen of Altoona, IA; 6 grandchildren: Jared Yepsen, Laura Krohne, Elizabeth Yepsen, Tyler Feldman, Trisha Feldman, and Tanner Feldman; 1 great grandson Braxton Yepsen; brother Don (Alice) Yepsen of Jefferson, IA; sisters: Nadina Lynch of Williamsburg, IA, Jo Ann Corcoran of Greenfield, IA, Donna (Bill) Duncan of Goodyear, AZ; sister-in-law Lea Yepsen of Bondurant, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
