Mary Bernice Ditsworth was born October 11, 1922, in Webster City, daughter of Arthur E. and Maria C. (Mulbusch) Ingalls. She grew up in the Eagle Grove area where she graduated school. Bernice was married to James C. Baker in 1941 and he passed away in 1948. In 1950, Bernice and her children moved to Bancroft. She was united in marriage to Raymond Allan Ditsworth on October 13, 1956. She worked at St. Ann's Hospital in Algona for 12 years and then was a nurse's aid at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft. Bernice enjoyed knitting, dancing, traveling, playing cards, and she was a wonderful cook. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church being active in the C.D.of A. and the Altar Society.
Bernice died Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft at the age of 92. She had been a resident there since March of 2011. She is survived by a daughter, Gwen Salas and her husband Joe of Pueblo West, Colorado; a brother, Chuck Ingalls Sr. and his wife Ethel of Bancroft; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James Baker and Raymond Ditsworth in 2000; a daughter, Madeline Doocy; a son-in-law, William Doocy; and a sister-in-law, Norma Ingalls.
