Mrs. C. C. Helvig died; burial last week
Mrs. C. C. (Ruth) Helvig, 59, died Monday, July 15, at 5:15 p.m. at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, where she had been a cancer patient for six weeks. Mrs. Helvig was born July 9, 1904, in Story County, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Linda Olson. She graduated from State College of Iowa at Cedar Falls, and taught in the Roland, Dows and Milford Township schools. She was united in marriage to Clarence C. Helvig at Slater, Iowa. To this union one son, Rodney, was born. After the death of her husband on September 28, 1959, she returned to teaching in the Roland schools, and had just completed this year at the time of her illness. She was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church, The Roland Wa-Tan-Tan-Ye Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Helvig was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one grandson, David, who died in 1960. She is survived by her son, Rodney, of Des Moines; two brothers, Guy Olson of Ames, and Walter Olson of Huxley; two sisters, Myrrhine Olson of Des Moines, and Mrs. Gladys Eveland of Ames; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 18, at 2 p.m., from Bergen Lutheran Church, with Pastor Howard M. Lybeck officiating. Adams Funeral Home, Ames, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Roland Cemetery.
