June 22, 1880 --- April 9, 1917

Mrs. W. H. Higby, a former resident of this city, died Monday evening at her home at Hecla, SD, after a lingering illness. She had been in poor health for many months but the immediate cause of her death was tuberculosis of the bowels. Accompanied by her aged mother, husband and three sons, the body passed through Hawarden this morning on the way to the old home at Eagle Grove for interment. Quite a number of the friends of the family were at the depot this morning to extend their condolences to the bereaved family.

The deceased made her home in Hawarden for about two years, during which time Mr. Higby was station agent for the Northwestern company. He resigned that position a little over a year ago when the family moved to Hecla. During her residence here she formed the acquaintance of a considerable number of Hawarden people who came to know her as a devoted wife and mother and a thorough Christian lady. All will join in extending sincerest sympathy to the stricken family.
