Funeral Today for Drowning Victim

Versailles, Mo., July 7. - (Special)
Funeral rites will be conducted here today at 2 p.m. for Joseph Eddy, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Eddy of Gravois Mills, who drowned in backwater in the Osage river near Schell City Thursday. Young Eddy and a companion, Ralph Johnson, had gone swimming late in the evening. He swam into the backwater of the stream and in spite of efforts made to save him, drowned. His body was recovered an hour and a half later.

The youth was born in Galt, Iowa, Aug. 15, 1930. He moved to Morgan county in 1936 when his parents came here to make their home. In addition to his father and mother he leaves three brothers, Sgt. James Eddy of the U.S. Army who is visiting his home on furlough, Albert and Billy, both of Versailles, and two sisters, Blanche of Kansas City, and Grace who is a student at Bolivar. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. L.H. Westphal, minister of the Methodist church. Burial will be in the Versailles cemetery.
