Katheryn Messerly Duley

Katheryn Duley, age 68, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Visitation with the family were held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Hillside Missionary Church. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Hillside Missionary Church, with Pastor Brian Bontrager officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Duley family.

Katheryn Ann was born December 12, 1943, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Dale Messerly and Bernice (Minikis) Messerly. She was the oldest of three children and grew up on a farm in the Fort Dodge, IA area. After graduating high school, she went on to become a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years in various capacities. She was married to Walter Slininger on May 1, 1964. They had three sons, Greg, Jeff, and Jason. Katheryn and Walter were married for 41 years until Walter passed in 2005. It was a year later that Katheryn met Robert. They were married on December 22, 2006.

Katheryn had a giving, joyful, servant's heart. This was made evident many times throughout the years of her life in many different ways. She was active in her family, her community, and her church. She particularly loved children and was always very involved in Sunday School or youth groups. She loved sharing Jesus with kids! She also very much enjoyed photography. She was the official family memory keeper, and her photo books were something to behold.

Katheryn was preceded in death by her first husband Walter Slininger, mother Bernice Messerly, and sister Kay Shamblin. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Robert Duley, children Greg and Carmon Slininger of Harcourt, IA, Jeff Slininger of Bozeman, MT, and Jason and Angela Slininger of Omaha, NE, eight grandchildren, father Dale, mother Grace, brother Douglas, nieces, nephews and many friends. Katheryn will be greatly missed by her family and friends but her memory will live on in their hearts. May God grant comfort and peace to all who mourn her passing.
