Dale L. Messerly, 92, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada. A service honoring Dale’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. B.L. Rice officiating. Interment will be in Colfax Township Cemetery near Vincent. The visitation is from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Dale is survived by his wife Grace; son, Douglas Messerly, step-sons, Michael Seaboch and Anthony Seaboch; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Bernice, two daughters, Kathryn Duley and Kay Louise Schamblen and his brother Wayne Thomas Messerly.

Dale Leroy Messerly, the son of W. Roy and Gertrude (Carroll) Messerly, was born March 19, 1922, on the family farm near Duncombe, Iowa. He attended Colfax Township Schools through 8th grade and then attended Fort Dodge Schools. Dale began farming at the age of 17 and was a lifelong farmer until his retirement in the early 1980s. Dale was united in marriage to Bernice Evelyn Minikis in 1943 at the Vincent United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death in 1986. In 1987, Dale was united in marriage to Grace Eleanor Seaboch in Webster City. Dale was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was active in men’s fellowship. He enjoyed bowling and his coffee group at the Tom Thumb Restaurant. He and Grace enjoyed dancing and traveling together throughout the country.
