Ronald Wesley Hunter, Age 84.

Ron was born in Kingsley, IA to Albert and Dorothy Hunter. He grew up in Belmond, IA, attended Waldorf College and graduated from Wayne State College. In 1955 he graduated first in his class from the University of Nebraska Law School and was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. In 1953 he was a member of the three-person team which won the National Moot Court Championship against Georgetown in New York City. From 1954 to 1957 he served as a Special Agent with the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps in Baltimore and San Francisco. From 1957 to 1961 he practiced tax law in Des Moines, IA with Swift & Brown. From 1961 to 1964 he was attorney for Swanson Enterprises of Omaha. In 1964 Ron represented Chicago developer John Coleman and helped expose corruption in Omaha city government. In 1975 he became president of the Western Heritage Society, fought to save Union Station from demolition and spearheaded the opening of the Western Heritage Museum, now known as the Durham Museum. Ron served as president of the museum for over a decade. He retired from the practice of law in 2013. He was a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He was the recipient of distinguished alumni awards from Waldorf College, Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska College of Law. He served on the boards of the Douglas County Historical Society and the Nebraska State Historical Society. He authored books on the first ten years of the Western Heritage Museum, the 1964 Omaha corruption scandal, sunken steamboats of the Missouri River, and Colonel Nelson Miles.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Marilyn J. Hunter and second wife, Stephanie M. Hunter. He is survived by a sister, Janice Beal; daughters, Ann Thariani (Kumail) and Heather Hunter; sons: Mark, Steven, Ronald (Lisa) and Thomas; and seven grandchildren. SERVICES Saturday, November 15th at 1pm at the West Center Chapel. Interment, Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to Wayne State College.
