Andrew Johnson Dies at Age 62
Andrew Johnson, 62, a resident of Hawarden almost 20 years, died Tuesday of last week at the Hawarden hospital following an operation. A brief service was held at 9 a.m. Friday morning at the Barnard Funeral home with Rev. Paul Williams of the First Baptist church in charge. The body was taken to Eagle Grove where services were held Harold Johnson, one of his brothers, and his wife, one of the triplet sisters of Mrs. Johnson of Eagle Grove, came to Hawarden and together with the widow accompanied the body to Eagle Grove. He was born October 12, 1896, at Clarion, Iowa, but moved with his parents to Eagle Grove when a child. During World War I he enlisted in the Navy and served eight years. After his naval service he returned to Eagle Grove where he worked as a switchman in the North Western railroad yards. He married Miss Ethel Hill of Eagle Grove April 16, 1929. In 1940 he came to Hawarden. He was raised in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the American Legion, Dale lodge of the Masonic order and the Brotherhood of Railroad trainmen. Survivors include the widow; two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Richardson of Luverne, Minn., and Mrs. Mabel Hacker of Emmons, Minn., and two brothers, Harold and Charles of Eagle Grove.
