August 20, 1928 --- April 6, 2012

Arthur W. Anderson, 83, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines, with Pastor Ken Wallace officiating. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cuppy's Grove Cemetery near Harlan, Iowa.

Arthur Anderson, born August 20, 1928 in Wolbach, NE, was an ordained Baptist minister who loved our Lord Jesus Christ. He married Hulda Olson of Harlan, IA on July 31, 1949 who preceded him in death. Art was called by God as a young man to be a minister of the Gospel, and he pastored at Baptist churches throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and Kansas. He was a graduate of William Penn College and Faith Baptist College and Seminary. Art received his Clinical Pastoral Education at the Mental Health Institute at Independence. In addition to preaching, he worked for the State of Iowa for 30 years, for both the Department of Human Services and Department of Inspections and Appeals, until his retirement on October 30, 1992. Art completed two Master's degrees, one in Social Work from Fort Hays Kansas State University and one in Public Administration from Iowa State University. After retirement from state work, he continued to preach at various churches in Iowa, his home state. Not even open heart surgery at age 79 could stop him from preaching. Art loved sharing the message of the good news of Jesus Christ. God called Art home two days before he was to preach his final sermon on Easter Sunday at First Baptist Church in Humeston, Iowa, after serving as full-time pastor there for almost 8 years. We agree with Arthur's niece, Martha Whitson, a Baptist missionary, who stated, "Your Dad served faithfully to the end, what a wonderful testimony of commitment to our Lord."

Surviving are children, Daniel (Alida) Anderson of Jacksonville, FL, Carol (Pundit) Tiwari of Andover, MA, and Jonathan C. (Amanda) Anderson of Clive; grandchildren, Nathan, Shaun, and Michael Tiwari, of Andover, MA, Andrew "Ben" Anderson and Andrew Blakeslee, both of Jacksonville, FL, and Aleah, Cody and Samantha Anderson of Clive; his siblings Marian Clark of Denver, CO, Jean Jensen of Cedar Rapids, and JoAnn Henry of Davenport; and sisters-in-law, Lavonne Anderson of Harlan and Liz Anderson of Avoca.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Humeston or Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines.
