Paul Edward Kjar was born February 9, 1928 in Rowan, Iowa. Paul left us on November 12, 2014 in his home at The Villages at Legacy Pointe in Waukee, Iowa. Paul moved to Clarion and finished high school in 1945. He had enlisted in the Navy while he was in school and after graduation went immediately to Great Lakes Naval Base to begin radio school. He then was sent to China while World War II began to come to a close. He returned to Clarion and began his career as a telegrapher for the CGA Railway. He worked for the railroad for thirteen years. During this time he met and married Elaine Kumba. This was a lifelong love story and friendship. They had four children: Steven (Deb) Los Gatos, CA; Scott, Las Vegas, NV; Brian (Karen) Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; and Susan (Carl) Egger, Urbandale, IA. They have eight grandchildren: Alyssa, Hayley, Kregg, Kayla and Tyler Kjar and Brittany, Bailey and Brody Egger.

After several years Paul changed careers and went to work for the U.S. Postal service. Paul retired early from his career due to severe health problems which he accepted with the same calm attitude that he always had. Paul and Elaine had many years of traveling and visiting family in all parts of the country with many special winters in California.

Paul is survived by his wife, four children and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ann Parsons of Davenport, IA and Sena Kelehar from Pittsford, NY. He also has many dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents J. N. and Margaret Kjar, sister Elsie Schlei, and brother N. J. Kjar and step father Alte Hackley.
