Ben W. Olson, 71, prominent Eagle Grove banker, died at a Rochester, Minn., hospital Monday May 16. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenneth R. Torvik, Pastor. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was born Feb. 4, 1889, in Filmore County, Minn., to Hans and Martha Olson. At the age of 7 he moved with his parents to Decorah. After high school he entered the banking business at Winneshiek County State Bank of Decorah. On Jan. 31, 1917, he married Edna Tavener of Decorah. In 1920 they moved to Forest City where he worked in the Winnebago County State Bank. The family settled in Eagle Grove in 1935. In 1943 he became president of the Security Savings Bank here, which office he held until his death. For many years he served as treasurer and council member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a long time member of Rotary and a past president. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. He is survived by his wife Edna, his daughter, Lois, Mrs. Odell Knutson of Owatonna, Minn., and 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters Agnes, Mrs. Clyde Roe, Sioux City; Ella, Mrs. Carl Hanson, Mason City.
