SIOUX CITY, IA -- Rick Kumerfield, 66, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at NE Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. No memorial service is scheduled at this time. Rick was born in Sioux City, on April 20, 1948, the son of Edith and Frank Kumerfield. He was raised in Sioux City and attended public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1966. While in high school, Rick was active in various clubs and organizations. He was also active in Scouting, attaining the level of Eagle Scout in 1965. After high school, Rick attended Morningside College for three years and the University of Texas for one year.

During his years at Morningside, Rick met Candace McClenahan of Belmond, Iowa. They married in 1970 and moved to Minneapolis, where they had a daughter, Erin. Rick then began working for the Midwest division of Carnival Cruise Lines. Later, he started his own tour company, ITT Tours, specializing in tours of Ireland. Rick moved to Texas in the 1990s. In 2009, he received a traumatic brain injury, and had since been receiving intense care in a nursing home in San Antonio.

Survivors include daughter, Erin (Brent) Mason; brothers, Craig of Dell Rapids, S.D., and Gary (Judy) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and nieces, Teri (Ted) Zagnoli of Chicago, and Lisa (Leo) Holzer of Minneapolis. Rick was preceded in death by his dad, Frank Kumerfield; and mother, Edith Kumerfield Madsen.
