Des Moines -- Cynthia Gorrell Levy, 79, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Fountain West Care Center. At her request she was cremated and no services are planned. Cynthia was born in Stewart, Nebraska on October 15, 1935 and raised in Clarion, Iowa. She spent her adult years in Des Moines. She was a dedicated volunteer who was passionate about the causes she supported. In particular, she gave her time to Iowa Planned Parenthood and Living History Farms. Cynthia had strong opinions she was happy to share, a quick wit, and a sarcastic tongue. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and caring for those she held close. Cynthia was the original 'apple cheeked, grey haired old lady' who drove her car 'like a bat out of hell' and cut a swath through life with 'her silver tongue'. In her spare time, she loved to knit & read. She is survived by her brother, Don of San Francisco, CA; two children, Ruth of Seattle, WA and David of Portland, OR; her ex-husband, Gerald of Fort Meyers, FL; and her beloved friends and care takers, Gary Swanson and Jim Hess. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to Planned Parenthood or Living History Farms.
