Mrs. Jane Dean Called
Mary Jane Dean was born in Steuben County, Indiana, December 29th, 1845 and died at Meridian, Idaho, November 27th, 1923 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 29 days. At an early age she moved with her parents to Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. She was married at Goldfield, Iowa, March 17, 1861 to Edward Brown, who died in 1895. To this union eight children were born, three of whom passed away some years ago. Those surviving are: Mrs. Ella S. Hemsted, of Meridian, Idaho; A. L. Brown, of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Mrs. J. B. Kellar, of Meridian, Idaho; Mrs. L. R. Lembke, of Meridian, Idaho and Mrs. C. J. Lembke, of Wilmar, Saskatchewan, Canada. She leaves also 26 grandchildren to mourn her passing. A year after her husband answered his country's call, leaving her to care for herself and child. He served in the Civil War in Company D. of the First Iowa Calvary, three years and seven months. She spent the greater part of her life in Iowa and knew all the hardships of pioneer life. She came to Idaho in April 1913 and since then has spent most of her time in Meridian. She was the last of her family, her brother, J. M. Dean having preceded her but a few weeks.
She had been a great sufferer for many years and was very patient, especially during her last illness. She was a kind and faithful mother and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. Interment was at Meridian, Idaho.
