Joan R. Andreasen, 87, of Algona, died Thursday Sept. 11, 2014, at the Algona Manor Care Center. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Algona. Interment followed the service in the East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

Joan Wharton Andreasen was born on Aug. 5, 1927, to Ray and Ruth (Holmes) Wharton in Wright County. She attended rural schools and graduated from Rowan High School in 1944. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and began her teaching career in a rural school in Franklin County. Joan accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at a young age. On Dec. 31, 1950 she was married to Warren Andreasen. One daughter, Kathleen, was born to them in 1954. Joan taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School many years. She loved to travel, go camping and crocheting; but her greatest love was her family and her Lord.

She is survived by her husband, Warren; daughter, Kathleen (Rick) Sandifer; granddaughters: Kelly Sandifer and Kristen (Stephen) Ryland; great-granddaughter, Claire Ryland; sister, Marjorie Wheeler; sisters-in-law, Beulah Wharton and Harriet Wharton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ruth Wharton; brothers: Roscoe, Robert and Ronald Wharton; sisters: Joyce Hackbarth and Jean Markham; brothers-in-law: Raymond Wheeler and Arnold Andreasen and sister-in-law, Donna Andreasen. Oakcrest Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
