OSKALOOSA — Joseph Jay Fuller, 61, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at his home due to complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was born Monday, June 15, 1953, in Manchester, the son of Roger and Betty Hansel Fuller. He graduated from the West Delaware High School with the class of 1971. Following school, Joe was involved in a myriad of job opportunities before finding his niche in the poultry industry. He was instrumental in the founding of Fremont Farms of Fremont and Malcolm, and served as its vice president of operations from 1998-2013. He then continued offering his expertise as a consultant for Centrum Valley Farms in Clarion. He retired in February 2014 due to health issues. On Oct. 27, 1973, Joe was united in marriage to Janice (Groth) Fuller and they were married for over 36 years. Janice passed away Jan., 19, 2010. Joe later married Ann (Mutti) Visser of Pella on April 6, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church of which he was a member. Joe will be remembered for his love of his family and friends, his ability to tell a great story and his frank attitude about life.
Family and friends were paramount in Joe's life, and he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. Joe's surviving family includes his mother: Betty of Manchester; a daughter: Chastity Lynn (and Rock) Miller, of St. Peters, Mo.; twin sons: Shannon Fuller, of Oskaloosa, and Shawn (and special friend Jackie Hopkins), of Prairie City; eight grandchildren: Myriah, Makenna and Mataya Miller, Alexis Brady and Aliyah Fuller and Kylie and Clayton Fuller. His extended family includes: Kaci Visser, Shane Cox, Logan Fischer and Keegan Cox of Knoxville and Abby and Van Hopkins, of Prairie City; three sisters: Trudy (and Jerry) Moon, of Austin, Texas, Shirley (and Tim) McGuire, of Ankeny, and Pam (and George) Tegeler, of Elkader; his mother-in-law: Marilyn Mutti, of Pella, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Roger Fuller; and his first wife: Janice Fuller.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Dr. Doug Smiley officiating. Graveside services and burial will be privately held. Visitation will be held Sunday after 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 1 – 3 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ALS of Iowa in Joe's memory.
