PORTLAND, Ore. - Shirley F. Schumacher, 78, of Portland, Ore., and formerly of Pleasant Valley, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Hopewell House in Portland. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. A memorial visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Shirley was born May 25, 1936, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Shirley (Horton) Withers. She was united in marriage to Carrol E. Schumacher on Dec. 21, 1957, in Ames, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1993. A devoted mother, loving wife and joy to those around her, Shirley worked as a teacher of kindergarten and first grade; a grocery clerk and a housewife. Those left to honor her memory include four children, two grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers and one great-granddaughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one granddaughter.
