Funeral services were held at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ on April 20, for Martin Karsjens, 69, who died at the Belmond Hospital on April 18. Rev. James Laak officiated. Burial was in the Klemme Cemetery. Quesenberry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Martin Karsjens was born in Franklin County on April 22, 1908 to Jake and Tena Meyers Karsjens. He attended Bradford school in Franklin County. He was married to Bella Waddingham on August 27, 1932, at Klemme. He was a farm laborer until 1943 when he went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. He retired from the railroad in April 1973. He was a member of Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ and served on the Consistory. He also belonged to the Senior Citizens organization. He was preceded in death by a son Jim and one brother and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Bella; son Ronald and his wife Kay and their three children, Kevin, Kirk and Julie of Garner; daughter Deloris Pearson and her husband Carl and their three children, Tim, Cindy and Susan of Klemme; also two great grandchildren, Amy Karsjens and Danita Pearson; as well as his parents, living in Iowa Falls, two brothers and four sisters. Casket bearers were Harry Anderson, Ronald Brinkman, Fred Wessels, Orville Bridges, George Legge and Harlan Block.
