Gene Connelly, 83, formerly of Goldfield, died August 27, 2014, in Warrensburg, Mo. Gene was born to Harry and Esther Connelly in Des Moines, Iowa, April 13, 1931. He was raised near Allison, Iowa, where he graduated. After serving in the US Army during the Korean War, he lived near Marshalltown, Iowa, farming with his father and brother. Gene and Linda Gates Miller were married November 5, 1965, at Conrad, Iowa. They lived in Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa, where he managed hog confinements. In 1976, they moved to Goldfield, where they continued to live and raise their family. He also spent several months in Greece assisting in the start up of a hog unit. After leaving hog management, Gene was a veterinary pharmaceutical representative for Norden, Smith-Kline Beecham for several years. Following Linda’s death in August 2002, Gene moved to Mission, Texas, to be near his brother, and then to Missouri to be near his son. Gene is survived by his five children, Chris Connelly and wife, Pam, of Rogers, Ark., Brad Connelly of Independence, Mo., Patty Connelly Beckett, and husband, Rick, of Warrensburg, Mo., Kathleen Connelly-Brown of Rogers, Ark., and Mike Connelly, and wife, Delia, of Rogers, Ark. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Connelly, and wife, Mary, of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Nancy Whyte, and husband, Steve, of Goldfield; and one nephew, Josh Bailey of Faribault, Minn. No services are being held. Following cremation, ashes of both Gene and Linda will be scattered by their children in Wisconsin where they enjoyed many fall vacations.
