BELMOND, IA -- Glenn R. (Moo) Meints, 85, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday August 5, 2014 at St Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services for Glenn (Moo) Meints will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. Pastor Alan Schulz will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Glenn R. (Moo) Meints will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Glenn Richard, the son of Bill and Tillie Henn Meints, was born February 24, 1929, near Belmond. Moo grew up in and around Belmond where he attended school. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1947. Glenn was united in marriage to Jan Lerdal on October 22, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple made their home near Belmond, on an acreage outside of town. Glenn worked for his dad at the Phillips 66 station for many years before buying the Laundromat with Jan. They moved into Belmond in 2004 where they lived at the Belmond Community Apartments Condominiums.
Glenn was Belmond’s favorite son. He worked hard to make Belmond the best little town it could be. His participation in groups and activities for Belmond could not be contained here, but, briefly, Glenn was active in Belmond Ambulance Crew, Belmond Arts Council and Hospice. Glenn was a devout member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jan, adopted family, Max and Jenny Peterson and their children, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Kinslie, three sisters, Grace Haugen of Dows, Marion Carpenter of Belmond, Karen Ofstethun and husband John of Clarion, sister-in-law, Bev Lande of Sumner, brothers-in-law, Bud Lerdal and wife, Carol of Berne, IN, Bob Lerdal and Shirley of New London, three dozen plus three beloved nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Con, Bill and sister, Esther Halverson.
