Marie E. Kelly was born on July 4, 1927, in New Jersey, the daughter of Charles and Julia (Hart) Kelly. She graduated from high school in New Jersey and continued on to earn her associates degree in criminal justice. While living in New Jersey, Marie met LeRoy Jackson while he was stationed on the east coast with the Navy during World War II. In April of 1944 they were united in marriage. Following LeRoy’s honorable discharge from the military the couple made their home in New Jersey for a few years before moving to the Midwest and settling in Iowa, where LeRoy’s roots were. Together Marie and LeRoy welcomed the arrival of their seven children. Marie was a remarkable woman. For many years she served as the City Clerk for the City of Kanawha before being appointed as the first Magistrate of Hancock County.

Marie and LeRoy then moved to California for a few years before returning to Iowa and settling in Clear Lake. In her free time, Marie enjoyed crocheting and sewing, as well as other arts and crafts. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family. She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, Dan (Vicki) Jackson, Clear Lake, Kelly (Nelda) Jackson, Garner, Matt Jackson, Little Rock, Calif., Joe (Kay) Jackson, New Baden, Ill., and Maureen (Kevin) Kozisek, Garner; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Jackson, Clear Lake; her grandchildren, Troy, Terry, Tammy, Amy, Emily, Nicole, Allison, Michelle, Albert, Raymund, Lynn, Rolando, Joshua, Jared, Krystal, Sean, Heather, Michael, Kathryne, and Ana, and their families; her siblings, Jeannie Morse and John Kelly; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia; her husband, LeRoy; two sons, Sandy and Chuck Jackson; a grandson, Travis Jackson; and her siblings, Julie, Helen, and Charlie. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
