****

Beryl Gray Morse Whittlesey was born, the fifth child of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Morse, on May 12, 1905, near Pioneer, Iowa. She lived on the farm during her childhood days and attended the country school nearby until 1916 when she stayed with an older sister and had one year's schooling in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Then her family moved to Humboldt, Iowa, where she finished her high school work with the class of 1924. The next few weeks she taught school in Humboldt county and also attended several terms of teacher's training at Iowa State Teacher's college, Cedar Falls, Iowa. On Jun 25, 1932, she married Max A. Whittlesey, of Gilmore City, Iowa, after which they began farming in that community, where Mrs. Whittlesey was a member of the Methodist church. Later they lived near Goldfield, Iowa, and just previous to coming to Sanborn in 1944, lived two years in Ames. Beryl was always the center of life and interest among her good and true friends. She loved her school children, and most outstanding was her deep interest and devotion to the welfare of her family, in spite of her poor health the last several years. Beryl's passing is greatly mourned by her husband, Max, daughter Marilyn, aged thirteen, Gerald, eleven, and daughter, Meredith, seven; her mother, Mrs. Wm. Morse, three brothers and three sisters.
