SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. BEEBE

Mrs. Mae A. Beebe, 91, wife of the Rev. Ralph J. Beebe, of the Mayflower Home, died Sunday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital. Funeral service for Mae Beebe were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell and Harris Stafford of Grinnell, officiating. Organist was Norman Goodbrod. Pallbearers were Wesley Ahrens, Albert C. Eisenman, Harold Brown, Donovan Evans, Willard Wells, F. Addison Jones, F.W. Tomasek and Leonard H. Evans. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Born June 29, 1888, in Barlow, N. D., she was the daughter of Julius Robert and Anna Louise Streed Engberg. She attended West Hill School in Burlington, St. Mary's at Fairbault, Minn., New Rockford High at New Rockford, N.D., and Phillips Academy at New Rockford. In 1910, she filed a claim to a half section of land near Lothair, Mont., and on October 22, 1913, she had received her patent on the land. She married Ralph J. Beebe, whose land adjoined hers. The couple had five children. In 1920, Rev. Beebe was called to serve as pastor of the Congregational Church of Ballantine, Mont., and Mrs. Beebe became his chief assistant. Later they served churches in Missoula, Mont.; Oneida, Ill.; and Primghar, Clarion and Sibley, Iowa. In 1958, following Rev. Beebe's retirement, the couple came to live at the Mayflower Home. She served as chaplain of the Eastern Star and P.E.O. Chapters, and was also a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational of Grinnell.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Merrill R. Beebe of Porterville, Calif.; three daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Dale) Anderson of Primghar, Vivian (Mrs. Milt) Barrent of Clinton, and Mary Ann Beebe of Elgin, Ill.; and twenty grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Harold I. Beebe; and three brothers, Sumner, Thad and Guy Engberg.
