October 18, 1914 --- June 4, 2014

The death of Celia Schimelpfenig at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth occurred Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

She was born Cecelia Mary Pratt on Oct. 18, 1914, in Kanawha, Iowa. In foster homes for about four years, she was then adopted by Les and Bess Buck in Olivia, grew up on the Buck farm and attended Olivia High School. Her family is rejoicing in the fact she is joining Jesus and husband Kelly in heaven, and because her years of total deafness are over, she is now hearing the heavenly choir music which she has missed for years. Celia was a wonderful testimony for Christ during her 99 years on earth. A considerate, loving mother and grandmother, she ministered to anyone in her presence. An RN for 30-some years, she blessed many patients and their families.

Preceding Celia in death were her parents; husband, Kelly; grandson, Steven Gregory; and brother, Bill Pratt and wife, Della. Celia's gifts were numerous: accomplished homemaker and hostess, loving wife and mother, drama and theater director for 4-H plays and debate, artist/painter in her later years and always one who made friends easily.

Celia and her sense of humor will be missed by her five children, Les (Ruth) Schimelpfenig, of Fridley, Harriet (Rolf) Rodmyre, of Hector, Robert (Donnette) Schimelpfenig, of Arkansas, Mark (Cindee) Schimelpfenig, of Rochester; and Ellen (Fred) Butorac, of Des Moines, Iowa. She leaves 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as two nieces, Marjorie (Pratt) Siebold, of Wisconsin, and Shirley (Pratt) Haak, of Blackduck.

The family cannot express properly the heartfelt thanks to the Arbor Terrace/Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth staff, especially Mary Dawn, Noel, Sue, Jon'e, Brenda, Amber, Jen, Larissa, Dee, Yvonne, and Tim, as well as the Seasons Hospice staff.
