Henry Groft, formerly of Polo, Ill., April 22.

Polo relatives have received word of the death of Henry Groft, a former resident of this community, who passed away at a hospital in Eagle Grove, Ia., on Saturday. Henry Groft, the son of Elias and Elizabeth Groft, was born in Brookville township, June 14, 1874. He is survived by a brother, Charles, a sister Mrs. Mae Savage of Polo, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John, and a sister Hannah. Funeral services were held in Eagle Grove on Monday and burial was made in a cemetery in that city.

Care of Ailing Tramp Costs Wright County around $1,200
TAKEN ILL IN EAGLE GROVE LAST OCTOBER
Dies in Convalescent Home Saturday Night. Treated in Hospitals at Ft. Dodge and Iowa City

Henry Groft, 67, a transient, died Saturday night in the Wright County convalescent home in Eagle Grove. Groft was taken ill in Eagle Grove last October. At that time it was found that he needed attention in a hospital. He was taken to Ft. Dodge and later to the state hospital at Iowa City. About three weeks ago he was sent back to Eagle Grove and was cared for at the convalescent home until his death last Saturday night. Groft carried a Social Security number which gave his home as Polo, Illinois. He told the Wright county authorities that he had been a wanderer all his life and that he had no real home. A phone call to an undertaker at Polo revealed that Groft had no relatives living there, but a niece was located who wrote a letter of inquiry which was received Tuesday. The deceased was buried in Rose Hill cemetery Monday afternoon. Expenses for hospitalization, care and burial will total around $1200 which will have to be paid by the county.
