He was taken there for treatment after the mishap a week ago Sunday and underwent two operations for internal injuries. As he preceded to milk a cow that was standing near one that had been tied to keep her from kicking, he was kicked under the tied one, and the tied animal trampled him, causing the fatal injuries. A friend of his, who was in the hospital to see him, reports that there were two other people there who were suffering from injuries receive in a similar manner. Mr. Vorland was 47 years of age, and leaves a wife and five children. Funeral services are to be held from the home, one and one-half miles east of Halfa at 12:30 Friday afternoon, and at the Palestine Lutheran church at 2 o’clock. Rev. A. Vorland Dies From Kick By An Unruly Cow
Services to Be Held Tomorrow

Andrew Vorland, 48, farmer living in the vicinity of Halfa, died Tuesday afternoon from injuries which he sustained when kicked Sunday while milking a cow. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Palestine Lutheran church near Dolliver.

Mr. Vorland was rushed to the Fairmont hospital where his injuries were treated, but his condition grew steadily worse and Tuesday noon it became evident that he could not live. The cow which Mr. Vorland was milking was known to be a kicker and he had tied the animal’s hind legs together as a precaution. However, the cow started kicking about when he began to milk her and Mr. Vorland was knocked to the ground. Before he could get from under the cow she jumped in the air and came down on him with both hind feet. Dr. Bailey was called and took him to the Fairmont hospital. Examination showed that the large intestine had been punctured in two places and he received other serious injuries. An operation was performed at the clinic and it was thought for a time that he might survive. Gangrene set in but Monday it was believed that the danger had passed.

Neighbors of the Vorlands have given a helping hand and have gone ahead with the work of harvesting his grain. Mr. Vorland is survived by his parents, his wife and five children.
