Funeral Service for Stephen Trausch, 69, Held at Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE - July 27 - Funeral services for Stephen Trausch, 69, were held at the Sacred Heart church Friday morning, July 26, at 9 o'clock, and burial was in Calvary cemetery. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Father T. Nolan. Mr. Trausch was born in Bissen, Luxemberg, and has been a farmer in Wright county for many years. While still managing the farm, he has maintained a residence in the city for the past three years. Surviving him are the widow; three sons, Alfred and Stephen, living on farms near the city, and Emil in Mt. Hebron, Cal.; also three daughters. Mrs. Clara Rink of Elliott, N. Dak., Mrs. Marie Hay of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Katherine Russell of Eagle Grove. One sister, Mrs. Mary Kirchdaffner of Peoria, Ill., also survives.

Stephen Trausch was born to Mary Shurtz Trausch and John Peter Trausch on May 7, 1860 in Bissen, Luxenberg, [Luxembourg] Europe. He passed away at his home in Eagle Grove after a week and four days struggle with diabetic gangrene, at the age of 69 years, two months and 13 days.

Mr. Trausch was educated in the schools of Germany and worked with his father as a carpenter until 1880. At the age of 19 years, he came to America and became a citizen of the United States. He located near Peoria, Ill., where he worked on a farm for seven years, after which he rented a farm in McLean county, Illinois, where he farmed for several years and from there he came to Eagle Grove where in 1910 he purchased a farm where he lived until he retired nine years ago, at which time he purchased a home in Eagle Grove.

On Feb. 17, 1887, Stephen Trausch was united in marriage to Katherine Bauman, who was born in Chenoa, Ill., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nickolas Bauman, natives of Germany. To this union the following children were born: Alfred and Stephen, living in Dayton township, Clara Rink of Elliott, N.D., Emil of Mt. Hebron, Calif., Mrs. Marie Hay of Ft. Dodge and Mrs. Katherine Russell of Eagle Grove. Besides these children he leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, a sister, Mrs. Mary Kirchgessner, and a brother, Anthony Trausch of Peoria, Ill. He was a true and faithful husband and father, his life work being in caring for his family. A characteristic of his was to be honest with his fellowmen, regardless of circumstances.

Elson, Mrs. Ed Davis and Mrs. John Heintz of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bauman and son, Jerome, John Bauman, Steve Bauman of Chenoa, Ill.
