Conduct Last Rites for Mrs. Sterling, 71, at Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE — Funeral services for Mrs. James H. Sterling, 71, who died at her residence Monday were held at the Sacred Heart church Thursday in charge of the Rev. Father John L. Byrne. Burial by Kubitschek and Kastler, of Eagle Grove, was in Rose Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were John Reider, John J. Henneberry, Maurice Noonan, Thomas Griffin, Roy Hall, and Gordon Campbell. Surviving are the husband; three sons, Leo Sterling, of Canon City. Colo., Dr. Robert Sterling, of Detroit, Mich., and Harold Sterling, of Eagle Grove.

Margaret Ryan was born in Boston, Mass., Dec. 27, 1867 to James Ryan and Bridgette Hogan Ryan. At the age of six years she became an orphan, both her parents passing on in Belle Plaine, Iowa. In 1884 she came to Eagle Grove and was married to James H. Sterling at Charles City on May 24, 1886. Four children were born to this union, namely: the first child, a daughter, Blanche, born April 1, 1887, died Oct. 8, 1888; three sons, James Leo, Harold Bernard and Robert Raymond.

She was a resident of Eagle Grove continuously until her death, a period of 55 years. Mrs. Sterling was a very devout and energetic member of Sacred Heart Catholic church. She was ever vigilant in inculcating to her children the faith of her beloved church. In this she was successful and in her passing leaves to mourn her husband, the three sons and their wives, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She went to her reward peacefully with the glorious satisfaction of feeling at peace with her God, having lived an active and happy life, devoted to her family, a loyal wife, a loving, faithful mother and a true friend.

Death came at 8:55, Monday evening, May 15, after an illness of three months. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, May 18, at 9:00 o'clock at Sacred Heart church in charge of Rev. Father J. L. Byrne. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, beside her daughter.

Those from out-of-town who were here for the funeral were: J. Leo Sterling, Canon City, Colo., Dr. and Mrs. Robert R. Sterling and son, Robert of Detroit, Mich., Miss Anne Sterling, who attends Clarke College, Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Magg, Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes, and Chester Brown of Webster City, Leo and Les Hughes of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Thos. Devine and sons, John and Robert of Livermore, Mr. and Mrs. Don Findley, Harry B. Sherman, J. E. Beck, Leland Rice of Ft. Dodge, Mrs. James Zigrang, Misses Margaret Bowes and Mary Henneberry of Des Moines.
