Harold B. Sterling, 56, was stricken by a cerebral accident Tuesday afternoon as he was returning to his home on North Commercial. Although he was taken immediately to Dr. Christensen's office just across the street from where the stroke occurred death had already come.

Mr. Sterling had not been well for a number of months and had not been working in the store during that time. Medical examinations made during the period of his illness had not disclosed the heart condition. His death was a sudden shock to all. He had just had a cup of coffee in the Club Cafe and had gone out the back door to return to his home. The stroke hit him in the alley near the back door of the Amundson garage.

Funeral services will be in the Sacred Heart church Friday morning, March 19 at 9:30. Burial in Calvary cemetery.

Harold Sterling purchased the Wessell Hardware in November 1937 and moved here with his family from Williams, Iowa, at that time. He was engaged in the hardware business in Williams for a number of years previous to coming to Eagle Grove. Mr. Sterling is the son of the late J. H. Sterling and was born and raised in Eagle Grove. He graduated from the Sacred Heart high school in this city. He learned the hardware business in the Waddell store, before going to Williams to purchase his own business.

Mr. Sterling was known for his close attention to business and until last fall he had not taken vacation from his duties during the years he was located in Eagle Grove. Last fall his health begun to bother him and he was advised to let up and stay away from the store. His condition was diagnosed as nervous exhaustion at that time.

His son John is associated with him in the business. After his illness in the fall he did not return to the store although he was downtown and told many of his friends that he was feeling fine and that he planned to return to the store occasionally.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, John of Eagle Grove and Gene a cadet in the air corps at San Antonio, Texas, one daughter Ann of Chicago, Ill., two granddaughters and a brother Dr. R. R. Sterling of Detroit, Mich.
