GENE SCHAFFTER DIES

Prominent Eagle Grove Man Died Monday; Wife a Former Algona Girl

Senator Eugene Schaffter of Eagle Grove, died Monday from pernicious anemia after several weeks illness. Senator Schaffter, who was 57 years old, was for a number of years one of the most prominent men in northern Iowa. He was a member of the State Senate and a lawyer of ability. He married Miss Hattie Heckart of Algona, daughter of the late Cal Heckart pioneer merchant of Algona. The widow and two married daughters living in Eagle Grove, survive. Mrs. A. D. Clarke and Senator H. C. Adams and wife of Algona are in Eagle Grove for the funeral today. Mrs. Clarke is an aunt of Mrs. Schaffter.

Death of Senator Schaffter
Senator Eugene Schaffter of Eagle Grove passed away at his home there early Monday morning following an illness of several months from pernicious anemia. He was 57 years of age and was completing his first term in the state senate. He had gained a position of leadership in the legislature where his ready wife, and jovial nature had won for him the high regard of all his colleagues. He was highly esteemed and honored in his home city where he was connected with railroad work for eighteen years prior to engaging in the practice of law. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. The funeral was held at Eagle Grove Wednesday afternoon.
