EVANSDALE, IA — Lela J. Hanlin, 66, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 at Covenant Medial Center, Waterloo, of natural causes. She was born April 10, 1934, in Clarion, daughter of Norval E. and Kate J. Brooks Carter. She married Zane L. Hanlin on June 5, 1953, in Waterloo. He died Feb. 27, 2000. Survived by a son, Robin Eugene of Evansdale; two daughters, Penny Lee Hanlin and Wanda Jo Tucker, both of Waterloo: three grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald of Waterloo and Richard; and two sisters, Betty Umthun of Webster City and Dolly Hutton of Eagle Grove. Preceded in death by a daughter, Kathie Marie Hanlin; four brothers, Harold, Arthur, Frank and Charles; and five sisters, Eva Jorgenson, Luella Hackett, Dorothy Penfield, Maxine Danielson and Ruth Downing.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
