ROBERT EARLE (BOB) JANES
February 3, 1934 --- April 28, 2014Bob Janes went home to the Lord on April 28th. He passed away peacefully in Faribault, MN surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Renwick, Iowa and graduated high school there, where here he excelled in academics and sports. He grew up loving the outdoors in the farmland of northwestern Iowa. He married Marilyn (Baker) in Des Moines, in 1953 and they had four children. They later divorced. Bob served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 While in the Army he was stationed in Sen Dai, Japan and played for the US Army football team. Upon leaving the Army he attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where he earned a degree in Social Sciences and taught middle school for a short period of time.
He began his business career in sales with Colgate and then took a position with Pfizer where he served loyally for 30 years. He worked from regional headquarters first in Des Moines, IA, then Omaha, NE, and moved to Faribault, MN in 1969. He was an avid golfer and member of the Faribault Golf and Country Club. He finished his career in Southern California, managing the sales performance of his division for California and Hawaii. Shortly after his retirement, Bob returned to his hometown in Renwick where he was active in the community including the Methodist Church and the Goldfield Country Club and Golf Course. He was a cherished citizen of Renwick and was always generous to those in need. Bob loved the Lord, studying biblical scripture origin and he loved to teach and mentor others. His booming deep laughter, quick sense of humor, and sincere love for those around him will always be missed.
He is survived by his children; Rebecca (Janes) Diercks, Faribault, MN; Bob, Jacksonville, FL; Rick (and Gayle), Castle Rock, CO; Julie Janes (Bob) Daschner, Faribault, MN; sister Joanne (Jim) Doherty, Jacksonville, FL, and his dear friend and companion, Char Smith, Omaha, NE. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ernest and Maude (Packard) Janes, brother Joseph, sister Blanche (Norm) Hofmeister, and sister Laura (Darrell) Matteson. Memorial services will be held in Renwick, Iowa at a later date.
