April 6, 1881 --- September 30, 1963

May A. Moats was born on a farm east of Woolstock to Hiram D. and Rachel Welch, April 6, 1881 and died while visiting her son Roy and daughter Alma in Anchorage, Alaska, on September 30, 1963. She attended rural schools and was a graduate of Morningside College. She taught school for many years around Woolstock and Webster City. She was baptized at age 15 and became a member of the Waterman Woolstock Circuit of the Methodist church. She was a devoted mother, a dedicated Christian and her life exemplified her belief. She was a member of the Eagle Grove Methodist church at the time of her death. She was married on April 19, 1914 to Clayton M. Moats at Webster City. To this union were born four children, Delos of Council Bluffs; Roy of Spenard, Alaska; Alma, Mrs. Ben Cameron of Spenard, Alaska; and Mabel, Mrs. Herbert Will of Eagle Grove. After her marriage she lived in Vincent for nearly thirty years and for the last 16 years in Webster City with her sister, and in Council Bluffs and Eagle Grove with her children. She went in June to Spenard, Alaska, to visit with her children there. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, one great grand daughter, two brothers, Seth Welch of Webster City, Garth Welch of Hartford, S.D., and one sister Mrs. George Peterson of Goldfield and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1927 and by her parents, three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held at the Eagle Grove Methodist church on Oct. 4, 1963 with Rev. Lyle Lieder officiating. Interment was in Graceland cemetery in Webster City.
