Donald Irvin Moeller, 74, of Waverly, Iowa, died on March 20, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, in Waterloo, Iowa. Don was born on October 24, 1939, in Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of Art and Ella (Helmrichs) Moeller. He was united in marriage to Sharon Ruth Kephart on April 25, 1959. Don attended Buena Vista College and received his B.S. in Education in 1963. He later received his M.S. in Education/Counseling from Western Illinois University in 1968. He taught in Eagle Grove, Iowa in 1963, Fairmont, Minnesota in 1964 and served as Guidance Counselor at Waverly-Shell Rock High School for 34 years, retiring in 2002.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether it was on the water, on the beaches of Florida or simply at home. He loved sailing, fishing, golfing and hunting. He could often be found fixing things around the house or for others.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ruth Moeller of Waverly, Iowa; two sons, Lon (Linda) Moeller of Iowa City, Iowa; and Tom (Jennifer) Moeller of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Cortney) Boyle, Sarah Moeller, Ashley Moeller, Lauren Moeller, Addison Moeller, Maggie Moeller, Matt Moeller, and Keelia Moeller; and his brother, Wayne (Pat) Moeller of Lakefield, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his son, Ron Moeller, parents, Art and Ella Moeller, a brother, Kenneth Moeller, a sister, Constance Heisner, and two nephews, Gary and Richie Heisner.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Waverly with Pastor Dan Kahl officiating. Burial of cremains will be held in Harlington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo or to the family.
