Betty Johnson, age 84 of Iowa Falls, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the First Congregational U.C.C in Iowa Falls with burial at a later date. Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jean Johnson was born on October 10, 1929 in Iowa Falls to Ernie and Josephine (Evans) LaRue. Betty attended college at Cedar Falls and Drake. Her first teaching job was in Latimer. Her next teaching position was at Dows teaching kindergarten. She finished her teaching years at Garner Hayfield. She taught school for 37 years before she retired. During that time she started the pre-first program at the Garner Hayfield school. Betty was also nominated for Iowa teacher of the year. She took pride in her teaching and enjoyed each and every student. Betty is survived by her son Mike (Janet) Schroeder of Dows; her daughter Linda Banks of Glencoe, MN; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and her sister JoAnn (Lee) Blanchard of Nevada, IA. Betty was preceded in death by her parents (Josephine and Ernie), one sister (Mary (Carl) Rassmuesen), One brother (Maclyn (Jan) LaRue), and three husbands: Walter Schroeder of Dows (father of Michael and Linda), Gordon Greiman of Garner, and Robert Johnson of Iowa Falls.
