Arlene R. (Stoffer) Pals, 90, of Alexander, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the First Reformed Church, 212 Brown Street, Alexander, Iowa with the Rev. Philip A. Arnold presiding. Interment will be at the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 17, 2014, from 5-7 p.m., at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home Inc., 306 Central Ave. E., Hampton, Iowa.

Arlene was born in Franklin County, Iowa, on February 14, 1924, to Engle and Mattie (Schmidt) Stoffer. She attended Alexander school and graduated in 1942. She enjoyed and was a talented basketball player as well as being offered an academic scholarship to Luther College. She married Robert A. Pals, September 24, 1943, in the First Reformed Church. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Alexander, teaching Sunday School and Catechism. Arlene and Robert farmed south of Alexander for over forty years. Arlene was a full active partner in the farm operation while being an attentive, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Arlene is survived by her three children; Robert (Susan) Pals, Meservey; Deborah Pals, Chicago and Richard Pals, Alexander; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Irene Stoffer, Belmond; six grandchildren, Tom (Valerie) Pals, Sara Pals, Jason (Heather) Vestweber, Grant (Candace) Pals, Matthew Pals, and Wesley (Jessica) Pals; nine great grandchildren; and loved nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert A. Pals; brother and sister-in-law Jacob (Bobbie) Stoffer; brother and sister-in-law Lester (Laura) Stoffer; sister and brother-in-law Ann (Harold) Ellefson.

Arlene and her family thank Dr. Brindle, Dr. Colby and Angela Olson of the Belmond Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Heartfelt thanks to the attention, special and tender care that was given by the nurses and staff at the Belmond Specialty Hospital.
