L. Twaites, 79, Formerly of Garner, Dies

Garner - Funeral services for Leaman Twaites, 79, former Garner meat market operator, were held at the Bohn Funeral Homes at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Trevor Baskerville, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial in the Concord Township Cemetery. He died at his home in McMinnville, Ore., May 15 following a lingering illness.

Mr. Twaites was born near Waterloo Aug. 4, 1875. On March 29, 1899, he was married to Arvella A. Stokesbary of Renwick. The couple lived on a farm near Renwick for a time and later moved to Austin, Minn., where they farmed for several years before coming to Garner in 1923, at which time Mr. Twaites began to operate the West Side meat market in partnership with F. R. Perkins. After selling the market, Mr. and Mrs. Twaites returned to Austin where they lived until he retired. In June, 1952, they moved to McMinnville, Ore.

Survivors are his widow, two daughters, Ruth Katter of McMinnville, Ore., former Hancock County clerk of courts, and Marjorie Seavey of Jacobson, Minn., five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Twaites observed their 56th wedding anniversary on March 29 of this year. Six brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
