Ben L. Urban, 78, of Clarion passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services for Ben Urban will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 1:30 PM at the First Lutheran Church, 420 1st Street North West in Clarion with Pastor Ron Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

Benjamin Lee Urban was born on November 19, 1935 to Chris and Johanna Urban in Calumet, Iowa. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1954, and then attended Morningside College in Sioux City. Ben married Aurel Englert on June 23, 1956, and to this union, two sons were born, Mark and Jeff.

After working various jobs, Ben served in the Army in Washington State, and also worked in Cherokee at the District Patrol office as a clerk. He attended Patrol school in Des Moines, and began duty as a Iowa Highway Patrol Officer in Clarion in April 1959. He served his entire Patrol career in Clarion, where he retired in June 1991.

Ben’s main passion was flying. He owned his own airplane, and enjoyed flying with Aurie to fly-in airport breakfasts. Ben also enjoyed golf, camping, vacations with his family, taking photos, and was a member of the Masons, the American Legion, and First Lutheran Church in Clarion.

Ben is survived by his wife, Aurel; his two sons, Mark Urban of Denver, Colorado, and Jeff (Molly) Urban of Tucson, Arizona, and their children Haley and Jared. Ben was preceded in death by his parents.
