Johannes Augustinius Olson was born in Story County, Iowa, on July 2, 1866. His parents were Sigbjorn Espeland Olson and Kari Fiveland Olson. He was baptized by Rev. Amelund and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. P.A. Rasmussen at Duncombe, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

On December 1, 1886, the deceased was united in marriage with Maryanna Lund at Thor, Iowa, Rev. A. Rasmussen officiating at the ceremony. To this union were born the following children: Selma, Jennie, Clarence, Laura, Edna, Arnold, and Cecelia. Otis Payne is a lifelong foster son. Mrs. Gilbert Listul is a foster daughter. Carmody Helgeson, another foster son preceded him in death June 6, 1955.

Mr. Olson was engaged in farming at Thor, Iowa, until March 1901, when the family moved to Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Until his retirement, he was engaged in vaious businesses and farming. He was active in community affairs, his major interest being church. From the fall of 1939 to the spring of 1944, Mr. Olson, together with his wife, resided in Dawson, Minnesota, where they attended Trinity Lutheran Church.

For the past two years, Mr. Olson was bedridden due to infirmities of old age and loss of eyesight. He slept peacefully away at Clarkfield Community Hospital Friday, April 13, 1956. His entire family: father , mother, brothers, and sisters preceded him in death. Mourning his passing are his wife and the following children: Selma (Mrs. Martin Mikelson) of Spokane, Washington, Jennie (Mrs. Joseph Haaland) of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Clarence of Clarkfield, Laura (Mrs. Thormod Amdahl) of Richmond, California, Edna (Mrs. Henry Johnson) and Arnold, both of Clarkfield, and Cecelia (Mrs. Titus Ueland) of Rosemount, Minnesota, Otis Payne of Clarkfield and Mrs. Gilbert Listul of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Also surviving are thirty-five grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and children and grandchildren of the foster children.

Throughout his mature life, the deceased had an unshakeable faith in his Savior and a sincere devotion toward his wife, entire family and friends. The family is grateful for the many years of his living testimony.
