June 30, 1927 --- February 12, 2014

WEBSTER CITY - Earl Abbott, 86, of Webster City, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Reverend Richard Laird officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 191.

Earl Lee Abbott, son of Elisha Howard and Pearl Weiss Abbott, was born June 30, 1927 on a farm north of Webster City. He attended Cass Center # 3 rural school and graduated from Webster City High School in 1944. He married Donna Jean Robb on March 24, 1945 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Webster City. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Earl worked at Harry Brim Furniture, he owned his own trucking company for 8 years, Maudlin Construction for 30 years, Weavers Construction for a short time and Martin Marietta for ten years as a foreman and heavy equipment operator. Mrs. Abbott died December 30, 1991.

He is survived by his children, Janice (Bob) Moen of Webster City, Charles (Sandra) Abbott of Stratford, Diane (Butch) Weber, Sandra (Bruce) Ratcliff and Clifford "Chip" (Jackie) Abbott, all of Webster City; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Abbott of Webster City; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Russell Abbott; sisters, Grace Dakin and Ethel Schnell and long time companion, Val Maile.

Earl was a member of the New Testament Church of Christ, American Legion Post # 191, the VFW, Hamilton County Military Family Support Group and a former member of the Moose Family Center. In 2011 Earl and his son Charlie, went on a Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. giving tribute to W.W. II veterans.
