Ethel G. Hellickson, 97, of Garden Grove, CA, formerly of Humboldt, passed away September 7, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Garden Grove, CA. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 21, 2013 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Ottosen. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 20 at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Ethel Gertrude Tornes, the daughter of Nels and Inga (Ostenstad) Tornes, was born February 4, 1916 at Billings, Montana. As a child, Ethel made her homes in Spokane and Seattle, Washington before moving to Humboldt in 1932. She was united in marriage to Howard Peter Hellickson and the couple made their home on farms near Hardy, Humboldt, Thor, and Ottosen. Howard passed away in 1975, and Ethel moved to Humboldt. She was employed in the dietary department of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

Following her retirement, Ethel enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada with her friends Wilma Brown and Edna Johnson. She also enjoyed her many card games with Mary Daggy, Mabel Molander Erickson, and Margaret Weiss. Ethel spent many of her winters with her daughter in California, moving there permanently in 2005.

Mrs. Hellickson is survived by her daughters, Nancy Perry of Garden Grove, CA, and Carol Ludwig of Norco, CA; grandchildren, Dawn Stouff of Anaheim, CA, Michelle Perry of Orange, CA, Cindy Ludwig of Seal Beach, CA, and Jeff Ludwig of Norco, CA; and great grandchildren, Connor Stouff, Ryanne Stouff, Cameron Knust-Graichen, Kiersten Knust-Graichen, Madison Ludwig, and Riley Ludwig. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and her sister, Hildor Jett.
