April 26, 1913 --- June 4, 1987

ALEXANDER – Homer R. Olinger, 74, of Alexander, died Thursday [June 4, 1987] at the Belmond hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Burrell Pennings officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will begin 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. The family requests memorials be made to the Homer R. Olinger Memorial Fund.

Mr. Olinger was born April 26, 1913, at Nevada, Iowa, to Ralph and Hazel (Crane) Olinger. He attended schools at Dows and married Jeanette Ostendorf on Aug. 17, 1931. They farmed in the Clear Lake, Manly and Rowan areas for many years. He also worked for Acco Seed Co. for 20 years. They retired in 1978 and moved to Alexander. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette, Alexander; three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Marlys) Younkin, Ottumwa; Mrs. Wayne (Marjorie) Wenzel, Belmond, and Mrs. Dennis (Marcia) Anderson, Clear Lake; four sons, Harold, Clear Lake; Gary, Marion: Richard of Nevada, Iowa, and Kurt, Omaha, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Ida) VerHelst and Mrs. Pat (Lavon) Bridges, both of Dows; and one brother, Kenneth, Belmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one son.
