March 5, 1929 --- January 17, 2014

Lucille Jackson, 84, Webster City

Lucille Fern Root was born on March 5, 1929, to George and Bessie (Annett) Root. She graduated from Hampton High School, Hampton, IA. On September 5, 1948, she married James Jackson at the Church of Christ in Hampton. To this union 5 children were born, Diane, Gary, Duane, David and Steven. She and James were later divorced, but remained good friends.

After a very serious illness, in November 2005, she made her home with her daughter Diane and son-in-law, Ray Vasquez in Webster City. Her granddaughter Michele and great granddaughter Jessica were instrumental in her care. Lucille had so many passions, but first and foremost was her family. She loved them like no other. Her other passions were raising flowers, writing to pen pals (in her day she had over 100), feeding the birds (cardinals were her favorite) and the squirrels, reading, cooking, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble (and she could play a mean game), collecting dolls, going out to eat, traveling, going to Dollar General with Duane and Vicki and just sitting and visiting with Gary and their cat Chatty. She never met a person she didn't like and could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, Diane, (Ray) Vasquez, Webster City, IA, Gary Jackson, Marshalltown, IA, Duane (Vicki) Jackson, Marshalltown, IA, and David Jackson, Missouri. Also her 6 grandchildren, Michael Vasquez, Michele (Steve) Vasquez, Christina (Dan) Roberts, Jennifer Jackson, Keith (Jeniah) Jackson, Anna Jackson; 9 Great grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Paterson, Anthony Vasquez, Myles Miller, Joycelyn Roberts, Kane Misner, Hunter Roberts, Ashton, Braeden Davis and Cora Jackson, step-great grandson, John Woodworth, two great great grandchildren, Tristan Tusing, and Holden Jergens. Also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bessie Root, son, Steven Jackson, Sisters, Rosella, Helen, Elsie, Rhoda, Mable and Dorothy, her significant other, John Hill, daughter-in-law, Joyce, special friend, Joe Goss, her good friend and ex-husband, James Jackson, and her two best animal friends, Nicholas, and Chin.

The legacy she leaves is that she was a very strong woman and had good work ethics which she passed on to her decedents. A few days before her passing she had asked Diane to be sure to thank everyone who had shared in her life, be it family, friends, or the people who took care of her at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation, her doctors, Dr. Brindle, Dr. Woodhouse, and Dr. Congello. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial or sympathy card may direct them to Lucille's daughter, Diane Vasquez, 1214 3rd Street, Webster City, IA 50595. Funeral services were held at the Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, IA., on January 21, 2014, and burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows, IA.
