May 25, 1928 --- January 6, 2014

James L. "Pete" Knight was born May 25, 1928, and passed away in Vero Beach, FL on January 6, 2014. Pete grew up on the family farm in Goldfield, IA where he graduated high school. He married Mildred Ogland on February 11, 1950. Pete enlisted in the US Air Force and served 4 years as a cryptographer. He returned to Goldfield and farmed until 2008. Pete enjoyed his four children, supporting their interests, attending sporting events, and giving them all his love. Wherever he went, he shared his warmth and good nature with a smile and enjoyed conversation with everyone he met. Pete had many friends. He was active in his community: a trustee of the Presbyterian Church, UPY, and participated in 4H, Little League, Wright County Extension Council, and president of the Wright Co. Pork Producers, the Gold Eagle Coop Board, Wright County Fair Board, American Legion, and an Iowa Master Swine Producer. He was a die-hard Dodger fan, which brought him and his beloved wife to spend their winters in Vero Beach, home of Dodger spring training. They eventually made Vero their home, where they spent many joy filled days together.

Pete is survived by his loving wife Mildred and four children, Linda Knight (Gary Johnson) of Cocoa Beach, FL, Sue Cross of West Des Moines, Dale Knight (Ann) of Iowa Falls, and Ron Knight of Clive. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sara Wientzen (Dan), Megan Conway (Brian), Alexandra Knight, Jessica Claudin (Pike), Nash Johnson; great-grandchildren, Landon, Meredith, Vincent, Lyanna; great family friend, Jeff Slaikeu; sisters-in-law, Frances Knight and Fern Schultz; brother-in-law, Eugene Lewis (Phyl) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Jay and Maude Kelling Knight and his siblings: 3 brothers, Richard, Kenneth, and Lynn, and 4 sisters, Elizabeth Grandgeorge, Lucile Kvale, Ione Lewis, and Betty Lou Knight.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Iowa. Memorial gifts may be made to the United Presbyterian Church or Wright County Junior District Fair.
