ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL - Patricia D. Adam (nee Cowan), 91, a resident of Sunrise Senior Living of Schaumburg since July of 2010, formerly of Arlington Heights since 1967, passed away Jan. 2, 2014, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Pat was born on Jan. 17, 1922, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, earning a degree in journalism and serving as editor of the college paper. She went on to begin her journalism career with United Press International in Minneapolis, Minn., and continuing with UP later in Milwaukee, Wis. Marrying Carl H. Adam, she later moved to Morton Grove, where she worked for the Morton Grove Champion, a local paper. She also edited the PTA newsletter for school district 67 while raising 2 children, Lee Ann and Jeffrey. After a divorce, a former colleague at the Champion helped her obtain work at the Daily Herald as a copy editor in the early 1960's. She went on to become the Suburban Living editor, playing an important role in the transition of the Daily Herald from a weekly to daily paper. She was later appointed associate editor which included editorial writing among her responsibilities. After retiring she continued to work during election periods coordinating candidate interviews, conducting interviews and writing candidate endorsements, finally calling it quits at age 79. Pat was active in her church, First Presbyterian of Arlington Heights. She was a longtime member and former president of P.E.O. chapter DV of Evanston. Pat also loved to travel. Her sister, Donna B. Kreisberg, was married to a foreign service officer. With their many international posts in locations such as El Salvador and Chile, she had plenty of opportunity for international travel. She enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren and public affairs programs on television. Her survivors include her daughter, Lee Ann Paisley; son, Jeffrey Adam; sister, Donna B. Kreisberg; granddaughter, Erynn Paisley; grandsons, Adam and Ian Paisley; great-granddaughters, Gwyn Paisley, Eliska and Brodie Ratzlaff; and great-grandson, Kaleb Paisley. She was also aunt of Roderick B. Kreisberg and the late Robin Kreisberg. A memorial service will be held sometime in the Spring of 2014.
